We come as missionaries because we believe in the importance of serving others, as we have been taught. However, when we actually start the mission work, we realize that it is not just about the help we provide, but also about the personal growth and enlightenment we experience. The mission leaders emphasize that the most crucial task is to simply be present for the residents, whom we affectionately refer to as “neighbors.” In a way, the neighbors themselves are the mission, and we are the ones who benefit from their presence and teachings. They embody the spirit of Christ, and we are the ones who have the opportunity to learn and grow from their wisdom and love.
